Oshakati Life Change Centre
Churches and the community in the north are working together through the Oshakati Life Change Centre (OLCC) to help the people of the North, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Their vision is "To be God's beacon of hope and care for the holistic transformation of seemingly hopeless lives in northern Namibia". Thus giving hope by reaching out and providing spiritual and physical help to orphans, vulnerable children and people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, teaching God's Word, caring for people without hope and providing life skills to people in need.
The OLCC takes care of more than 200 vulnerable children including orphans. Rebekka Shilongo moved to Oshakati in 2005 and initiated an Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programme, feeding orphans and looking after the poor and needy. Aside from managing the OVC Centre, counselling sessions are conducted with the children and many of them also attend school. They are educated on behavioural change and receives counsel where needed.
The OLCC also provide the children with a meal three times a week and further try to provide clothing and school uniforms.
The provision of food is only possible with the help of donors, especially business people and other good Samaritans, like Lithon Foundation.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
